We have just come to the end of Mission South Yorkshire which was based in Sheffield. The team was mainly made up of OAC evangelists from around the country but other people joined too. Each day saw between 10 and 15 people preaching on the streets.
We had a great time and had many good conversations each day. Approx 5 people prayed to become Christians and many others took Christian literature away with them to read and think about.
Sheffield was chosen for this short term mission in order to support the work of local OAC Associate Evangelist, Oliver Buckley. Oliver lives in nearby Rotherham. Three of the team members were also local people who had attended the OAC ‘Streetwise’ training programme recently. It was great to see all three of them preach on the streets as well as engage in personal evangelism with those that stopped to listen.
It is our hope that the increased profile of OAC in the area will eventually lead to Oliver and team establishing a regular OAC presence in the Rotherham/Sheffield area.
The method that OAC Ministries is mainly known for is the sketchboard. The sketchboard is effectively a large easel. The board catches people’s attention as they walk through the town. The preacher’s job is to use the sketchboard as a tool to capture people’s interest and share something of the Gospel with them. It has proved to be an effective tool over many years.
As well as the sketchboard OAC evangelists use magic tricks, escapology, puzzles, bead bracelets and more as they seek to engage with people on the streets and share the ‘Good News.’ If you’d like to learn some of these skills, why not join our next Streetwise training course. Many thanks to the pastor, Paul Edwards, and the leaders of the Sheffield Central Elim Pentecostal Church for allowing us to use their building for the Mission South Yorkshire.
