OAC has just celebrated 50 years of evangelism in Britain. OAC started in Australia in 1892 and was formally established here in 1968 by David Fanstone. David, together with his wife Alice who was the General Secretary, led the work for over 30 years until ill health forced him to retire. It was fitting that the 50 years of evangelism was celebrated in Brighton as that is where the ministry was based for many years and also where David and Alice returned after David’s retirement. Over 60 evangelists, former evangelists and supporters gathered to celebrate the past, learn more of the present ministry and pray for the future of OAC.
The celebrations were led by the current National Director, Marten Holmes, and it was a joy to have two out of three of the previous National Directors (David Fanstone and Peter Kennelly) present for the celebrations. David Glover, who took over as N.D., was unable to be present but sent video greetings.
During the weekend of the celebrations, and the previous weekend, OAC evangelists took part in a series of evangelistic street outreaches as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival.
OAC looks forward to another 50 years of evangelism, unless of course our Lord returns beforehand! If you are interested in learning how to be effective in street evangelism take a look at the STREETWISE page. Alternatively look through our EVANGELISTS and see if there is anyone near enough to where you live to join their street outreaches.
